Fitting Environment Guide

At Jade Lines, we want fitting your blinds to feel simple, safe, and satisfying. Preparing the right environment before installation makes a big difference to how smoothly the process runs and how professional the finished result looks.

Follow the steps below to get your space ready before fitting begins.

Step One Prepare the Area

Clear the space around the window so you can move freely while working. Remove nearby furniture, décor, and curtains, and make sure ladders or steps can be placed securely on flat ground.

Good lighting is essential. Natural daylight works best, but additional lighting can help you clearly see fixing points and window edges.

Lay out all components of your blind and keep your tools close at hand so nothing is misplaced once you begin.

Step Two Inspect the Window and Surroundings

Check the window frame and the surrounding wall or ceiling to ensure the surface is solid and suitable for drilling.

Look for handles, vents, trims, tiles, or uneven plaster that could interfere with the blind once installed.

Decide whether you will be fitting inside the recess for a streamlined finish or outside the recess to provide better light control and coverage.

Step Three Plan Your Fixing Method

Mark fixing positions lightly in pencil and use a spirit level to ensure everything will sit perfectly straight.

Confirm the type of wall you are drilling into so you can choose the correct plugs and drill bits.

Make sure you understand where the brackets will sit and how the blind will clip into place before drilling any holes.

Necessary Conditions

Install blinds in a dry, clean environment at normal room temperature. Avoid fitting in damp areas or on newly painted surfaces until they have fully dried.

Ensure the surrounding structure is strong enough to support the weight of the blind.

If drilling, always check for hidden pipes or electrical cables and keep power tools away from moisture.

Work on stable flooring and use a steady step ladder if required.

Final Checks Before You Start

Read the full fitting instructions supplied with your blind.

Count all parts and fittings to confirm nothing is missing.

Measure once more before drilling.

Keep safety devices within reach and ready to install.

How to Measure for Installation

Accurate measurements are essential for a perfect fit. Always use a metal tape measure and record sizes in millimetres for the best precision.

When measuring inside a recess, take the width at the top, middle, and bottom and use the smallest measurement. Measure the drop from the top of the recess to the sill in several places and again use the smallest figure.

For outside recess fitting, measure the area you want the blind to cover and add extra width on both sides to reduce light gaps. Measure the full drop from where the blind will be fixed down to where you want it to finish.

Double check all measurements before placing your order.

Room by Room Advice

Kitchens and bathrooms benefit from moisture resistant blinds and fittings that cope well with humidity.

Bedrooms often work best with blackout styles or layered blinds for improved light control and privacy.

Living rooms suit a wide range of styles depending on décor and natural light levels.

Conservatories and sunrooms may need heat reflective fabrics to manage glare and temperature.

Home offices benefit from blinds that reduce screen glare while allowing daylight to enter.

Safety Information

Always follow the fitting instructions provided with your blind.

Install all supplied child safety devices and ensure operating cords or chains are kept out of reach.

Use protective eyewear when drilling and handle tools carefully.

Do not attempt to fit blinds alone if working at height.

If you are unsure about any part of the installation, pause and seek professional assistance before continuing.
